“Note for analyzing work groups” for use in first session, and complete the other readings for the first three sessions.

September 9, 2008
FIRST CLASS: 360-degree review process: Launch Leadership Profile exercise. Read instructions for 360-process that are part of the readings assigned for session 1. Nadler & Tushman, chapter 2, Instructions for the Leadership Profile Exercise. Be prepared to answer questions on readings.

October 3, 2008
360-degree review process: Leadership Profile ratings deadline is Friday, October 3 at 5 PM.

October 10, 2008
360-degree review process: Hardcopies of Leadership Profile report, based on the 360-feedback to be distributed in the October 10 class.

October 17, 2008
360-degree review process: Self-Assessment Worksheet due October 17 via email to xz2123@columbia .edu : Based upon this feedback report you should complete a Self-Assessment Worksheet (available on Angel), which asks you a series of questions about your feedback and thereby allows you to identify things about your leadership style that you wish to leverage further or improve.

Study group presentation of Xerox. 360-degree review process: A 1250-word Self-Assessment and Action Plan paper due (detailed instructions for the paper are in the readings for the executive coaching session): Turn in a hardcopy of the paper in class. The final write-up should briefly describe your strengths and weaknesses (already presented in the Self-Assessment Worksheet), and be primarily devoted to: (1) diagnosing the reasons for your weaknesses, and (2) presenting an action plan of how you intend to address your weaknesses and/or leverage your strengths.

December 6, 2008
Review session: 7:30 – 8:30AM. At this session Prof will discuss the practice exam and answer any exam-related questions. Study group presentation of Ferguson.

FINAL EXAM: 9-11 a.m.The exam will focus on just the facts. It will consist of up to 20 discrete choice questions regarding specific practices that make organizations more or less effective.
